I understand what it’s like to have an engineering brain, and all of the fantastic qualities and challenges that come along with it. I have been an engineer for more than 15 years, and can confidently say that I understand the engineer “species” (at least as much as that is possible!). I have an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, and earned my Masters in Electrical Engineering while experimenting with many different types of engineering – software, firmware, testing, analysis, algorithm development, systems, and management. I understand first-hand the frustrations of stress and anxiety, managing time, balancing work and life, and struggling to express my creativity. I have grappled with weight, difficult co-workers, insane deadlines, frustrations with career development, and creating and running my own successful business. I can help you with all of these things and more because I’ve been there. I spent lots of time fruitlessly trying to find relief, make progress, and solve my problems by attempting to change external circumstances, while all along I was focusing on the wrong part of the equation.
What I didn’t realize was that it was my thoughts, not my circumstances, which were stopping me from getting what I wanted in life. While we often do not have control over external circumstances, we always have control over our thoughts and how we react to those circumstances. Once I realized this, I was able to hone in on the problem just like we engineers love to do. When we stop believing limiting and painful thoughts, we are free to move ourselves closer to what we are meant to be and do in life, that is, our “North Star“. This simple (but not always easy to implement) concept can be applied universally to every single challenge that you face. Once I was on the road to my North Star, I went from being 40 pounds overweight with major stress, anxiety issues, and challenges balancing my work and home life, to a fantastic balance of engineering, owning my own business, family time, and time to nurture my own creativity and interests. It CAN be done!
You have likely tried countless other methods to get out of your madness. Have you tried coaching?I understand the frustration of trying and trying and trying, only to continue repeating the same patterns. I tried so many programs, methods, and gimmicks. I tried militaristic self-discipline and I tried letting it all go. But until I found coaching, nothing seemed to work. I feel like I’ve been coaching all of my life. I have always been interested in people, their challenges, and how they approach them. I have always loved working through issues with people and helping them overcome and succeed. Essentially, I love to apply my passion for problem solving to helping people. I am a certified coach with New York Times bestseller and Harvard Ph.D. Martha Beck, and am trained in the Co-Active Coaching model through the Coaches Training Institute, an accredited ICF training program. However, my most important qualification is that coaching is my North Star in life. This is what I was born to do.
